The Many Colors of Verre de Soie

Posting Number 2752   Date: 07/14/17     Return to Posting List

Hi Alan,

In answer to David Chadwick Brown question about other colors in VDS. To my knowledge there was only VDS, Yellow VDS, Aqua Marine and Cyprian. I have seen the Yellow VDS with a dark amethyst lip wrap also.

Beth Shaut

I have 2 yellow VDS items that have amethyst cintra wraps. One a bowl the other a candlestick. The candlestick is pictured in Marshall Ketchum's second edition of Frederick Carder's Steuben Glass. Jim Sutterfield

Shape: 5061

Form: Bowl

Color: Topaz, Iridized (f/k/a Yellow Verre de Soie)

Type: Iridescent

Decoration: Rim, Amethyst

Size: 8 in dia.

Shape: 5061

Form: Bowl

Color: Verre de Soie

Type: Iridescent

Decoration: Rim, Celeste Blue

Size: 9.75 in dia.

Description:This may be Cyprian but it is difficult to tell. There doesn't seem to be the greenish tint in the glass that would be characteristic of Cyprian.
