What's A "Water-Lamp Base"?

Posting Number 2788   Date: 09/05/17     Return to Posting List

Last week Jan Baer submitted several pictures of Water Lamps, several engraved by Hawkes. Searching the Carder Steuben Club Web Site shows eleven line drawings, including three pictures (see below) for water lamps. Most of the line drawings state they were special orders for the Art Lamp Company. Gardner in The Glass of Frederick Carder at p. 44 says,, "These were designed to be filled with water, and the bulb socket and shade holder fastened to an insert that fit into the neck like a cork. Made in the late 1920s for Art Lamp Company." Perhaps someone on this mailing list can amplify on this.
