The Story Behind Vintage "Shiny Brite" Christmas Ornaments

Posting Number 3333   Date: 12/17/19     Return to Posting List

sent to the GG by Rebecca Fears

If you frequent antique or vintage shops, youve undoubtedly seen Shiny Brite ornaments, even if you have no idea of their name. Theyre the colorful, often intricately painted glass ornaments, ranging from classic red to hot pink to candy-striped. Theyre usually a bit expensive for someone (ahem, me) whos used to thrift-store pricesmaybe $20 to $30 a boxbut I recently found a set of 12 in their original cardboard box for $4.50 at a charity shop.

Ive always admired them, but now my curiosity is officially piqued: Whats the history behind these adorable little ornaments?
