Isnt the first "8508" vase in the Museum of Fine Art Boston collection amethyst as contrasted with "Gold Ruby", as identified? Mike Rains

Mike, it looks like you're on the "money". It's not gold ruby, but amethyst. Museums often lack the resources and expertise and time to properly identify gifts that are outside their primary focus.
